Yay or Nay - New Years Resolutions?
I'll be honest and say I like the idea of New Year Resolutions. There's something so encouraging about the beginning of a new year, a fresh start, a clean slate! But resolutions have never been something I have really indulged. I have instead over the past few years, chosen a 'Word of the year'. A single word that sums up my goals, focus, and how I wish to live my life.
Before revealing my 2019 word, I want to first tell you about my 2018 word - INTENTION. It didn't take me very long to decide on this word (this time 12 months ago). As I was in a struggle of Biz / Family life balance, and feeling like there wasn't enough time in the day! By choosing the word INTENTION as my 2018 word, would keep me focused on what was important and helped me to manage my time better. To intentionally, choose how I spent my time, and sometimes that was absolutely nothing, but to do it with intention. It meant I felt more rested and less stressed through out my year. I guarded my 'down time' preciously, and was un-apologetically absent at times when I would normally be the first in line.
Honestly, I think I have become quite selfish with my time. I now choose very carefully where it is I invest my time and energies. The importance of centering my life around people and things that give me joy, fulfillment and meet my values, is now clearer than ever. With this focus of INTENTION, it's meant more time at home, more time with my children and more time spent in nature (my happy place).
The year of 2019, begins thoughts of new goals both for my business and also for my family. Having achieved many things to be proud of in 2018, I know I am capable of more. With many ideas and surging enthusiasm, the only thing left from this equation; is courage. So my word presents itself promptly once again, my word for 2019 will be COURAGE. Courage to live my best life. Courage to step outside my comfort zone. Courage to reach for the stars and courage to lead by example.
I have a lot of goal setting and biz related planning to do as we head into another year. I feel confident I have chosen the right word as I sit down to do just that.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on New Years Resolutions? Do you like to set them for yourself, or do you do something similar to me, and choose a 'Word of the year'?
Either way, I am wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR, remember to stay safe and look out for one another. See you in 2019!
